TAGBILARAN CITY — Electricity rates for March 2026 have slightly increased, driven by higher power supply and transmission costs, according Bohol Light to an advisory.
The average residential rate rose to P12.9224 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), up by P0.3973 from February’s P12.5251 per kWh. Commercial rates also went up to P12.3433 per kWh, reflecting the same increase from the previous month’s P11.9460 per kWh.
The increase was mainly attributed to higher generation costs, particularly from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), where electricity prices fluctuate depending on supply and demand conditions in the grid. During the March billing period, WESM prices increased, resulting in higher overall power costs.
Transmission-related expenses also contributed to the hike, as line rental charges—covering the use of transmission facilities—rose significantly compared to the previous month.
Bohol Light clarified that generation and transmission charges are not controlled by the distribution utility, as these are determined by power suppliers, market conditions, and regulatory approvals, and are passed on directly to consumers without mark-up.
The utility said it continues to comply with regulatory guidelines and remains committed to transparency by keeping consumers informed of developments affecting electricity rates.
