TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — A handful of firecracker-related injuries were reported during New Year celebrations in Bohol, but police said the province welcomed 2026 without any deaths or major disturbances.
According to the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO), six minor firecracker incidents were recorded on January 1.
These involved two cases in the town of Trinidad, three in Tagbilaran City, and one in Dauis.
BPPO Public Information Officer Police Major Rey Olar said none of the incidents resulted in fatalities.
The BPPO also logged two fire incidents during the holiday period. One residential fire in Tagbilaran City was reportedly caused by a lighted candle, while another fire in Baclayon is still being investigated by authorities.
Police further reported zero cases of indiscriminate firing, with no firearm discharges involving members of the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), or civilians throughout the New Year celebrations.
BPPO provincial director Police Colonel Patricio Degay Jr. commended police personnel for their vigilance and commitment to duty during the holidays, saying their efforts helped ensure public safety.
