TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — The Department of Agriculture (DA), through the Agricultural Promotions Center (APC), is ushering in the holiday season with the “Pamaskong Tabo”, a two-day fair on December 3–4 that brings together 23 DA-assisted farmers’ associations offering fresh produce, processed foods, and unique Christmas novelties.

APC information officer Adoracion dela Cruz said the fair aims to give consumers affordable, healthier food options while strengthening the direct link between farmers and buyers, including potential dealers. This year’s edition highlights a diverse mix of products—from native chicken, organic vegetables, and rice to value-added goods such as banana chips, moringa powder, and dairy items.

Unlike other agri fairs with specific themes—such as organic-only or Ubi-focused events—the Pamaskong Tabo serves as a convergence of crop-diversified and palayamanan groups, offering a broader range of items. The fair also features eco-friendly Christmas décor crafted from maguey fiber and upcycled materials.

A major highlight is the participation of the Central Visayas Agriculture and Aquatic Research and Development Consortium (CVAARDEC), which is bringing technologies and research outputs designed to help farmers innovate. Among these are smart-farming tools such as mobile rice disease detection, intelligent ginger-quality assessment, cacao disease classification, optimized fruit detection systems, and technologies for backyard tilapia farming.

CVAARDEC’s Margie Avenido said the event is an opportunity for Boholanos to adopt ready-for-transfer technologies, including value-adding innovations that make products like tilapia more appealing to local consumers. These include tilapia ice cream, tilapia crackers, tilapia jerky, tilapia spread, freshwater eel crackers, seaweed ice cream, and various processing machines.

“This is the perfect time for farmers and entrepreneurs to explore these technologies because the researchers and universities are ready to transfer them,” Avenido said.

The DA and CVAARDEC encourage the public to visit the APC grounds and participate in the activities, see the technologies firsthand, and support local farmers through their products at this year’s Pamaskong Tabo.
