MANILA — Tropical Depression Ramil maintained its strength as it continued moving west-southwest over the Philippine Sea, according to Pagasa’s 5:00 p.m. advisory on Friday, October 17.
As of 4 p.m., the center of Ramil was located 640 km east of Juban, Sorsogon, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h and gusts of up to 70 km/h, moving west-southwest at 25 km/h.
Signal No. 1 is currently raised over parts of Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Quezon (including Polillo Islands), Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Burias and Ticao Islands, and Northern Samar.
Pagasa warned of strong winds and minimal to minor impacts in affected areas. Ramil may intensify into a tropical storm within 12 hours and could reach severe tropical storm strength before making landfall over Catanduanes on Saturday afternoon.
Heavy rains, storm surges up to 2 meters, and rough seas (up to 4 meters) are expected along the eastern seaboards of Luzon and Eastern Visayas.
Residents in high-risk areas are advised to prepare for possible flooding and landslides and to follow local evacuation orders.
