CATIGBIAN, Bohol – The municipal government on Tuesday destroyed at least 110 confiscated “open pipe” motorcycle mufflers in a ceremonial crushing held outside the town gymnasium.
Mayor Benjie Oliva said the use of modified mufflers violates the municipal ordinance, which aims to protect the community from noise pollution and ensure road safety.
The confiscated items were seized in police operations since Oliva assumed office in July. Witnessed by town officials, the illegal mufflers were crushed using a backhoe.
“We will continue to strictly implement the ordinance. The police will impound all violative items. Let us all be law-abiding citizens,” Oliva said.
He stressed that excessively loud mufflers not only disturb residents, especially at night, but also pose hazards to other motorists.
“Among gi-implement ang balaod kay sa butang nga gagmay dili nato mahimo kinsa man ang mutuo nato sa atong liderato?,” Oliva said.
