BATANGAS CITY, Batangas — Inside the walls of the Puerto Princesa City Jail–Male Dormitory, 20 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) are looking at their future with renewed hope after completing the second round of skills training under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority’s (Tesda) Events Management NC III course on Aug. 30.
The training centered on table skirting, a seemingly simple craft that, for many of the participants, could become a stepping stone toward livelihood opportunities and a more stable life once they reintegrate into society.
Jail Senior Officer 1 Peter Tumanon, welfare and development officer, said the initiative reflects the jail’s commitment to offering not just discipline but also dignity through meaningful programs. “This initiative not only imparts valuable skills but also gives our PDLs renewed hope and confidence as they prepare for their eventual return to their communities,” he said.
BJMP Mimaropa regional information officer JO3 Joefrie Anglo, for his part, stressed that such programs are crucial in transforming lives behind bars.
“Every training program we bring inside our facilities is a step toward transforming lives. By equipping our PDLs with skills they can use after release, we are giving them a fair chance at rebuilding their future,” he said.
The program is part of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology’s continuing rehabilitation efforts, which aim to go beyond confinement by nurturing self-sufficiency, positive reformation, and a smoother reintegration for PDLs. (PR)
