Getafe, Bohol – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bohol 2nd District Engineering Office has addressed concerns regarding a damaged slope protection structure in Barangay Corte Baud, Getafe.
According to the agency, the slope protection is part of the ongoing project “Organizational Outcome Insure Safe and Reliable National Road System – Asset Preservation Program, Rehabilitation/Reconstruction of Roads with Slips, Slope Collapse, and Landslides” under the Tagbilaran North Road (Tagbilaran–Getafe Section). The project has a contract cost of ₱27.7 million and began on March 18, 2024.
The office clarified that the damage was caused by the heavy and continuous downpour of rain last July 13, 2025. The excessive rain caused water to build up in a streamlet above the slope structure, which was not detected during validation. The sudden surge of water then overwhelmed the slope protection, resulting in its collapse.
DPWH Bohol 2nd stressed that the slope protection was built in accordance with standard plans and specifications. Since the project is still under its Defects Liability or Warranty Period, the contractor has already initiated repair works at no additional cost to the government.
“We value public feedback and welcome concerns from the community. The DPWH remains committed to delivering quality and environment-friendly infrastructure for the benefit of all,” said District Engineer Fernando J. Talagsa in the statement.
