SAN MIGUEL, BOHOL – Seven fisherfolk and farmers’ associations across the province received high-density polyethylene (HDPE) fish cages worth P6.3 million from the Provincial Government of Bohol to strengthen inland aquaculture and boost local tilapia production.
Each association received P900,000 worth of HDPE fish cages under the Tilapia Growers in Inland Aquaculture Project, an initiative aimed at improving livelihoods, addressing the high cost of fish, and strengthening the agriculture and fisheries value chain.
The beneficiaries include:Ilaya Tilapia Growers Association, San Roque, Talibon Awjan Zamora Farmers Association, Zamora, Talibon Guinob-an Tilapia Growers Association, Guinob-an, Sevilla Barangay Farmers Technician Association, Poblacion, Pilar Valladolid Palayaman Farmers Association, Valladolid, Loboc San Miguel Tilapia Growers Association, Bayongan, San Miguel Loay-Loay Fishermen’s Association, Poblacion, Loay
The project is spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Bohol in partnership with the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), and the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).
According to provincial officials, the initiative will not only provide fisherfolk with sustainable livelihood opportunities but also help ensure a steady supply of affordable tilapia in the local market.
“This is part of our commitment to support our fisherfolk, reduce fish prices, and strengthen food security in Bohol,” said Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado.
