Bohol Second District Representative Vanessa Aumentado has been appointed as the new chairperson of the House Committee on Ecology in the 20th Congress of the Philippines.
In a statement, Aumentado expressed gratitude to her fellow lawmakers for the trust and confidence they placed in her leadership.
“I am deeply honored and grateful to my colleagues for the trust and confidence you have given me in choosing me as Chairperson of the Committee on Ecology for the 20th Congress,” she said.
Aumentado said she accepts the responsibility with humility and a strong sense of purpose, acknowledging the critical role the committee plays in safeguarding the environment and promoting sustainable development.
“I accept this responsibility with humility and a strong sense of purpose, knowing how vital our work is in protecting our environment and securing a sustainable future for all Filipinos. I look forward to working with each of you in advancing meaningful and lasting ecological reforms,” she added.
The House Committee on Ecology is responsible for legislation and oversight concerning environmental protection, conservation, pollution control, climate resilience, and sustainable resource management.
Aumentado, who is serving her second term in Congress, has been active in environmental initiatives in Bohol, including marine conservation, waste management, and renewable energy advocacy. Her appointment is expected to bring a stronger regional voice to national ecological policies.
Environmental groups and local officials in Bohol have welcomed the appointment, expressing hope that Aumentado’s leadership will help push for more responsive and effective environmental legislation.
