Tubigon, Bohol – A 56-year-old South Korean national was arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Barangay Pooc Oriental, Tubigon for overstaying in the Philippines for nearly a decade.

The foreigner, identified as Park Yeungtae, was apprehended on July 23 after it was found that he had failed to update his immigration status since 2016.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the agency maintains a zero-tolerance policy for foreigners who violate Philippine immigration laws.

“Foreign nationals are welcome in the country, but they must follow the law. Those who break it will face appropriate action from the government,” Viado emphasized.

Following his arrest, Park was transported to Cebu City and temporarily held at the Mabolo Police Station. He will be transferred to the BI detention facility in Manila as soon as weather conditions permit.

The South Korean national will undergo deportation proceedings and will be placed on the immigration blacklist, barring him from re-entering the Philippines.
