CEBU CITY — Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro on Wednesday announced that the provincial governments of Cebu and Bohol are working closely to fast-track the implementation of the long-proposed Cebu-Bohol Expressway.
In a media briefing at the Cebu Provincial Capitol on July 30, Baricuatro confirmed that she has already coordinated with Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado to push forward the inter-island expressway project, which is expected to boost tourism and stimulate economic growth in both provinces.
“This can help our tourism and also economic growth for both provinces,” Baricuatro said, stressing the importance of interconnectivity in the Central Visayas region.
The Cebu-Bohol Expressway, first proposed several years ago, envisions a direct road link—likely via a long-span bridge—between Cebu and Bohol, cutting travel time, facilitating trade, and providing a new route for tourists traveling between the islands.
While feasibility studies have been previously conducted, Baricuatro said discussions are now being revived and intensified amid renewed interest from both local governments and potential investors.
Governor Aumentado has not yet issued an official statement but has earlier expressed support for infrastructure projects that can enhance Bohol’s accessibility and economic competitiveness.
Both provincial governments are expected to jointly lobby for national government support and public-private partnership (PPP) investments to realize the project.
Baricuatro said technical planning and further consultations will begin in the coming months, with the goal of breaking ground as soon as possible. “We are committed to making this expressway a reality within our term,” she added.
The Cebu-Bohol Expressway is anticipated to become a landmark infrastructure that will redefine mobility in Central Visayas and serve as a catalyst for regional development.
