TAGBILARAN CITY, BOHOL — The office of Bohol Board Member Dionisio Joseph “DJ” Balite has issued a public advisory after receiving complaints about a fake Facebook account using his image and name to scam people.

The bogus account, under the name “William Lagare,” was found using Board Member Balite’s profile picture while falsely claiming to be an executive staff member of Senator Bong Go and an associate of Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa.

Upon being alerted, Balite personally contacted the offices of both senators. It was confirmed that there is no individual by the name “William Lagare” officially listed as part of their staff.

The fake account was reportedly messaging individuals, soliciting financial assistance under false pretenses, using the public official’s image and fabricated affiliations to deceive people. Authorities say this is a clear case of online fraud and deception.

Meanwhile, the office of 2nd district Representative Vanessa “Van-Van” Cadorna-Aumentado also received a report from a concerned resident about a suspicious Facebook account impersonating the congresswoman.

Following a thorough investigation, it was confirmed that the account was fake and has no connection whatsoever to Aumentado or her office. The said account used her name and photos to mislead and deceive the public.

“This type of online fraud and misrepresentation is unacceptable and must not be tolerated in a peaceful and honest society,” a statement from her office said.

The public is again reminded to remain vigilant on social media and to report fake accounts and suspicious activity immediately to authorities.

“We must not allow deception to prevail. Let us remain united and vigilant against online scammers,” both offices emphasized.

The public is strongly advised to exercise caution and vigilance online:

Do not immediately trust social media accounts without verified identities.

Always verify the source of messages or requests.

Never send money to anyone claiming to be a public official or associated with their office without verification.

Authorities continue to monitor for similar cases and have vowed to take swift action to protect the public and hold perpetrators accountable.
