DIMIAO, BOHOL — A tragic incident unfolded in Barangay Sawang on the evening of Wednesday, July 9, when a husband fatally shot his wife before taking his own life inside their home.
The victims were identified as Letecia Balahay Maguyon, 56, a store owner, and her husband Dominique Pahang Maguyon, 56, the municipal accountant of the town of Dimiao.
According to police investigation, the incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. in the living room of their residence, located approximately 400 meters from the Dimiao Municipal Police Station.
Authorities confirmed that Dominique first shot his wife in the head before turning the firearm on himself. Both were declared dead at the scene.
A household helper reported hearing the couple arguing moments before two gunshots rang out.
Investigators said Dominique was believed to have been suffering from depression.
The couple had one child who was not at home during the incident, as the child was staying at a neighbor’s house at the time.
The Dimiao Police are still investigating the cause of the argument that led to the deadly encounter.
The couple will be laid to rest on Saturday, July 12, 2025, in their hometown of Dimiao.
Letecia’s family expressed their sorrow and hoped the tragedy would serve as a wake-up call for others struggling with anger, emotional distress, or undiagnosed illness.
