BOHOL — At least 84 Catholic bishops from across the country are expected to attend the 130th retreat and consultation of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), to be held in Bohol from June 30 to July 4, 2025.
Bishop Alberto Uy of the Diocese of Tagbilaran confirmed that Bohol will host this significant Church event, which focuses on the implementation of the Synod on Synodality—a global initiative launched by the late Pope Francis.
“This is a historic event kay for the first time, ang CBCP maghimo sa ilang retreat and plenary assembly diri sa Bohol,” Bishop Uy said.
“This gathering will not only be a retreat but also a consultation aimed at strengthening the synodal process in the Church,” Bishop Uy said. “Moral and pastoral issues will also be discussed during the meeting.”
Fr. Heraldin Laniba, chancellor of the Diocese of Tagbilaran, said that Diocese of Tagbilaran headed by Bishop Uy and Diocese of Talibon headed by Bishop Patrick Daniel Parcon are spearheading preparations for the event.
The event falls during Jubilee of Hope.
In addition to the bishops, members of synodal teams from various dioceses and subregions across the country have been invited to participate. The consultation will focus on formulating concrete guidelines for synodal reforms to help the Church become more inclusive and participatory.
This marks the first time that the CBCP retreat and synodal consultation will be held in Bohol—an event seen as both an honor and a spiritual milestone for the province.
