Joking about the sexual abuse or exploitation of children is not comedic and it is dangerous, Bohol provincial member Jamie Aumentado Villamor on Maundy Thursday condemned the child abuse and rape joke.

Villamor’s call came in the wake of a row involving rape joke made by singer and vlogger Elias Lintucan Jr.

“As someone who has spent years fighting for the protection of children and justice for victims, I strongly condemn the recent so-called “jokes” made by Elias during his performance. The remarks made by Elias suggest or make light of rape, violence, or pedophilia— particularly those targeting children. These subjects are not, and will never be, appropriate material for humor. These are not only deeply disturbing—they are unacceptable by every legal, moral, and human standard,” said Villamor.

She said joking about the sexual abuse or exploitation of children is not comedic; it is dangerous.

“Such statements do not only disrespect countless survivors who are in deep trauma but also perpetuate and contribute to a culture that normalizes, trivializes and dismisses abuse and exploitation. This behavior must be recognized for what it is: harmful, irresponsible, and a direct affront to the dignity and safety of children everywhere. There is no place in any public or private discourse in the Province of Bohol for the normalization of child abuse, even under the guise of humor,” she said.

“While the said remarks were not made in Bohol, it has circulated online and we are made aware that Elias has upcoming shows in different towns in the Province of Bohol. And as a provincial lawmaker and advocate for child protection, I have the duty to stand against rhetoric that normalizes or trivializes child abuse in any form. I call on Elias and the Management to take responsibility and accountability for his actions, and to take meaningful steps to educate himself on the gravity of this issue,” said Villamor.

She added,” We must all do better—and that starts with accountability. I call on every Boholano to stand firm for a society where the safety, dignity, and well-being of children are protected at all costs.”

Elias has scheduled concerts in Tagbilaran City on April 23, 2025.
