Beloved local historian, former professor Marianito Luspo dies

Former Holy Name University professor and Bohol historian Marianito Jose Luspo died at the age of 65 on Wednesday, Feb. 26.

The Center for Culture and Arts Development and the Bohol Arts and Cultural Heritage Council said that Luspo’s
immense contributions as a cultural researcher have left an indelible mark on Bohol’s rich cultural heritage.

“Your passion, dedication, and knowledge will be deeply missed. We love you, and we will cherish your memory forever. You will be dearly missed, Sir Nitz. Your legacy will live on,” the statement said.

In a Facebook post, the National Museum of the Philippines-Bohol said that Bohol has lost one of its greatest champions.

“His invaluable contributions to the National Museum of the Philippines were instrumental in shaping projects and programs that celebrated the province’s heritage. Through exhibitions, research, and community engagements, he played a pivotal role in bridging the past and the present, making cultural preservation a shared responsibility,” it said.

The details regarding the wake and funeral arrangements will be announced later.
