In a move to promote transparency and informed decision-making, lawyer Jordan Pizarras, has invited his fellow aspirants for the 1st congressional seat of Bohol, incumbent Representative Edgar Chatto and former Tagbilaran City Mayor John Geesnell “Baba” Yap, to a joint press conference to discuss their political platforms.
In a letter dated January 28, Pizarras emphasized the need for an open and meaningful discussion on pressing issues affecting the district. He believes that engaging in such a dialogue would help voters make informed decisions based on the candidates’ platforms, priorities, and vision for Bohol.
“This event aims to revive the tradition of past generations—when public servants were chosen not based on popularity alone, but on the strength of their ideas and commitment to serve,” Pizarras stated in his letter.
The proposed press conference would cover a range of pressing local issues, including:
*The high prices of fish, commodities, and electricity;
*Unemployment and the lack of job opportunities;
*Low salaries and economic challenges;
*The prevalence of illegal drugs;
*The lack of potable water in many areas;
*Low internet connectivity;
*High transportation fares.
Pizarras expressed confidence that his fellow aspirants share his commitment to fostering an informed electorate and encouraged them to participate in the event.
“Your participation in this joint press conference will demonstrate our collective dedication to genuine public service and the democratic process,” he said in the letter.
Chatto and Yap have yet to make public response regarding the invitation. However, the initiative has already sparked interest among political analysts and voters who see it as a rare opportunity for direct engagement between the candidates and the public.
With the 2025 elections drawing closer, this invitation could set a precedent for a more issues-based campaign, allowing Boholanos to assess their candidates beyond traditional political narratives.
