To prevent the spread of the African swine flu (ASF) in Carmen town, Mayor Conchita Toribio-Delos Reyes has prohibited to bring “bring house ” during the town fiesta on January 16-17 in honor of the Feast of St. Anthony the Abbot.
In her Executive Order No. 4, Carmen Mayor Conchita Toribio-Delos Reyes has prohibited the practice of “bring house,” the giving of raw or cooked pork meat for fiesta goers to bring them to their house.
She said Carmen has two barangays which has currently experienced the African Swine Fever (ASF) infestation in domestic pigs and which has resulted to a depopulation of the infected pigs.
She said it is expected that the Catholic faithful will prepare food with pork meat to cater to their visitors and fiesta goers.
“And with cultural practice of ” Bring House ” where raw or cooked meat are given to the guests and visitors and for them to bring it to their homes, there is a need for the necessary measures to prevent the spread of ASF to other barangays in the municipality,” she said.
She declared that it a moral obligation of the people of Carmen to help in preventing the spread of the ASF virus to other barangays in the Municipality and or its spread to other municipalities.
The giving of raw or cooked pork meat for” bring house” is hereby prohibited in the Barangays where there are active cases or incidents of the ASF virus.
Residents in other barangays where there are no active ASF cases are hereby highly encouraged not to give “bring house” to their guests or visitors.
ASF has affected 10 barangays in six towns- San Miguel, Batuan, Ubay, Carmen, Pilar, and Trinidad.
