PNA, hospitals condemn killing of nurse in Bohol

The Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) – Bohol Chapter condemned the killing of a nurse while on duty in Tagbilaran City.

In a statement, the tragic loss of their colleague was senselessly taken by an act of violence within the hospital.

“We strongly condemn this brutality and urge a swift and thorough investigation to ensure accountability and a safer environment for all healthcare workers,” the statement said.

“Our deepest condolences go to her family and loved ones. May her soul rest in peace, and may her memory strengthen our resolve to protect those who serve,” it added.

The Bohol Doctors Hospital was saddened of the tragic loss of its nurse. It said that their staff members are considered their extended family and the tragedy has deeply impacted them.

“We kindly ask for understanding, privacy, and respect for the family of the deceased as we all cope with this unimaginable loss,” the Bohol Doctors Hospital said in statement posted in their Facebook page. 

The Ramiro Community Hospital (RCH) also based in Tagbilaran also condemned the incident.

“Let’s honor the life of this brave nurse by advocating for a safer, more compassionate environment for all who serve on the frontlines of healthcare,” it said. 

“We stand together against all forms of violence towards nurses and healthcare workers. They selflessly care for us, and it’s time we do more to protect and support them,” it added.

The 51-year-old nurse died after she was stabbed by a patient identified as
Marlito Cardines Linguis, 31, a resident of Barangay Magsaysay in Sevilla town.

The patient was about to be discharged from the hospital when he found a pair of scissors and repeatedly stabbed the nurse.

Another hospital employee tried to stop the patient, but he was also stabbed.

The suspect is now in police custody.
