Asia Paraase from Pajo National High School in Lapu-Lapu City, is slowly reaching her dream of flying the Philippine flag in international competitions when she won the 3000 meter run of Athletics and the first gold medal in the 2024 Palarong Pambansa.
“Masaya po ako kasi pride na rin po ito ng Central Visayas. Payback na rin po para sa preparation nila. Masaya rin po kasi hindi lang din po kasi ito para sa akin kundi pati na rin po sa teammates ko,” she said.
Paraase has been involved in sports since Grade 6.
But Thursday’s event was her second time in the national games and her first time to win the gold medal.
“Dine-dedicate ko po ito sa sarili ko. Ang dami pong challenges na hinarap, nawawalan na rin po ako ng hope sa sarili ko,” she said. “Ang saya ko po dahil nagawan ko ng paraan para hindi ako kainin ng kaba at takot.”
After winning the gold medal in the 2024 Palarong Pambansa, Asia aims to continue the dream of representing the Philippines in the Asian Games and Youth Games.
