Educators from Bohol public and private schools faced off in the ‘Kulturo’ lesson-exemplar-making contest online from May 21 until 31, organized by the Samahan ng mga Alagad ng Kulturang Dapat Pagyamin (Sakdap) – Bohol.
In conjunction with the ‘Sandugo sa Bohol’ celebration, winners were awarded in a ceremony held last June 22, 2024, at the Ceremonial Hall of the Provincial Capitol.
‘Kulturo,’ which means ‘Kultura Ituro’, promotes developing a culture and competency-based lesson exemplar, integrated seamlessly with the Boholano cultural heritage to the subject taught.
In the elementary category, Kael Marie Penales of Holy Name University won first place (Grade 6 English); Christine Jesa Logroño of Holy Name University placed second (Grade 1 English), while Rex Celosia of San Isidro Elementary School – Tagbilaran City took third place (Grade 6 Mathematics).
Junior high school category winners include first placer Conrado Geniston Jr. of UB -Loon Institute (Grade 7 Physical Education); second placer Devina Barcial of Katipunan National High School – Carmen (Grade 10 Science); and third placer Lorna Lumayog of San Isidro National High School – Tagbilaran City (Grade 10 Mathematics).
Completing the list of winners for senior high school category were first placer Kristian Nikko Geangan of Hanopol National High School – Balilihan (Grade 12 Social Studies); second placer Aliza Villamora Goloso of Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School – Tagbilaran City ( Grade 11 and 12 Contemporary Philippine Arts); and third placer Khem Revilla of Hinlayagan National High School – Trinidad (Grade 12 Social Studies).
The top 3 winners for each category received P5,000, P4,000, and P3,000 cash prizes respectively, with their works to be compiled in a handbook, while qualifiers received a consolation of P2,000.
Representatives from the Department of Education (DepEd) graced the closing activity, with Dr. Neolita Sarabia representing the Tagbilaran City Schools Division as well as Dr. Donnabel Datahan and Dr. Ryan Balbaguio for the Bohol Schools Division.
Emerson Pinos, head of the Center for Culture and Arts Development (CCAD) welcomed guests and participants while Vida Mae De Juan, chairperson for Culture Education of the Bohol Arts and Cultural Heritage (BACH) Council presented the Teachers’ Guide Book.
Kasing Sining Artistic Director Lutgardo “Gardy” Labad delivered an inspirational message, citing educators’ significant contribution to cultural mapping in the first and only UNESCO Global Geopark Regenerative Island Province in the Philippines.
Moreover, Keith Florence Josol of Sakdap-Bohol introduced the judges and the contest’s criteria and mechanics.
Emilia Roslinda and Argeo Melisimo of the BACH Council awarded the winners, while SAKDAP – -Bohol President, Rachel Mende, gave the closing remarks.
Sakdap-Bohol, a nonprofit organization represented by the mostly graduate diploma of Culture Education scholars in Bohol, organized ‘Kulturo’ in partnership with the Provincial Government of Bohol through CCAD, BACH Council, DepEd Tagbilaran City Division and Bohol Division, and the Bohol Integrated Development Foundation Inc.
‘Kulturo’ is under the ‘Bibo’ stream of the bigger, bolder, and new Sandugo sa Bohol celebration, aligned with Governor Aris Aumentado’s Strategic Change Agenda and ABante vision, showcasing Bohol’s culture and heritage in various activities.
