Members of the Liga ng mga Barangay – Bohol Chapter gathered on June 5-7 for the 2024 Provincial Congress.

Attended by 1,109 village chiefs, this year’s congress focused on provincial programs and directions in the health, agricultural growth, African Swine Fever (ASF) and rabies eradication and disaster risk reduction management sectors.

The provincial congress serves as an avenue to develop organizational capabilities, to involve members for an effective barangay governance, and to facilitate continuity of the projects, programs and activities through implementing strategies that will support the needs of barangays across the province.

Lawyer Glenn Anino, chief of staff of the Vice Governor’s Office, challenged the leaders to harness available resources to create more employment, entrepreneurship, and development opportunities.

“Today’s Provincial Congress is not just a meeting but a testament to your commitment to progress and unity. Together we will forge a path towards a brighter, a more prosperous future for all our barangays,” said Anino, who represented acting governor Dionisio Victor Balite.

Board Member Lucille Lagunay recalled how former governor Erico Aumentado led the province out of the top 20 poorest provinces in the country through poverty reduction programs rooted in cooperation.

“Akong hangyo para sa tanan, para sa kaayuhan sa dili lang sa mga lungsod kung dili sa probinsya. Mag kahiusa ta, let us support one another, let us love one another,” she said.

LNB Vice President Rudy Tutor delivered the statement of purpose, while Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap delivered a welcome message during the program.

Senator Bong Go, who chairs the Senate Committee on Health and Demography and the Committee on Sports, was the guest of honor.

He expressed his gratitude to the Boholanos led by Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado for supporting his initiatives in the province. These include the establishment of Malasakit Centers, creation of Super Health Centers and the construction of the Governor Celestino Gallares Multi-Specialty Medical Complex in Cortes, among others.

Earlier in the day, Go had been to Dauis and Panglao for site inspections for super health centers and orientation activities on the implementation of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program, a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers.

2Jerome Gonzalez, Provincial Director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, graced the event with Board Members Aldner Damalerio, Benjie Arcamo, Nathaniel Binlod, SK Federated President Lawrence Xavier Ancla, Greg Jala, who also represented Cong. Alexie Tutor, Balilihan Vice Mayor Trisha Chatto, representative of Cong. Edgar Chatto, and Jun Flores, Governor’s Office Executive Assistant, representative of Cong. Vanessa Aumentado.
