The celebration of the month of March as International Women’s Month took center stage during The Capitol Reports special edition held at the Provincial Capitol Ceremonial Hall.

Guests during the March 8 edition were Dr. Anne Mariquit Oppus, Provincial Human Resource Development Office (PHRDO) head; Beatriz Pogoy, Women and Children Protection Desk police non-commissioned officer; Pat Michelle Quieta and Machiavillia Caliao, Provincial Health Office (PHO) nurses.

As PHRDO chief, Oppus announced the launching of the Men Opposed to Violence Against Women and Children Everywhere (Move) organization on the same day at the provincial Capitol lobby.

She added that the elected officers of Move and solo parents also took their oaths at the same venue.

Move is composed of men who are committed to promote against violence to women and children. This organization which promotes inclusivity of men as best advocates for women is on record as the first in Bohol.

Meanwhile, the PHO representatives revealed that in solidarity with the month-long celebration is an occasion to draw attention to the issue of teenage pregnancy in the region.

The PHO is conducting orientations and symposiums for nurses and midwives in the municipalities and barangays so they can disseminate information on this concern to the public.

Records show that the major cause is the lack of sexual education, to which the PHO seeks ways to educate the public especially the younger generations as early as elementary level to become aware of this pressing concern. (PIMO/RJG)
