The feasibility study for the proposed master plan for the Bohol Wastewater Treatment Project for Tagbilaran, Panglao, and Dauis is now on the table for funding discussion.

The project will be undertaken with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Last Jan. 22, Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado welcomed Ryo Matsuda from Japan Sewage Works Agency and Kensuke Matsuda from Phil-Japan Worldwide Services, Inc. at the Capitol.

Aumentado emphasized that, with the increasing population in Bohol, a sewage treatment plant is the preferred solution to protect the environment, especially the water sources, as prioritized in his Strategic Change Agenda.

He further proposed for the inclusion of the towns of Alburquerque, Baclayon, Cortes, and Maribojoc in the said master plan.

According to a report prepared by the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), septage generation in Panglao alone is estimated to increase to 19,687 cubic meters by 2030.

The governor is also seeking the support of His Excellency, Koshikawa Kazuhiko, the Ambassador of Japan to the Philippines, for the realization of the project.

Also present during the meeting were provincial administrator Asteria Caberte, lawyer Handel Lagunay, provincial legal officer; lawyer Filipina Asoy-Piollo, chief of staff; lawyer John Titus Vistal, PPDO coordinator; Jovencia Ganub, Bohol Provincial Environment and Management Office head and Imelda Borromeo, PPDO Economic Development Sector Division head.

The project is seen as a significant opportunity for the sustainable growth and development of the UNESCO Global Geopark island province. (PIMO/ALT)
