The Bohol Mineral Resources Regulatory Office (BMinRRO) posted a record high total mining income of more than P40 million for the year 2023 owing to transparent and aboveboard procedures for sand and gravel and quarry operations

In the report prepared by Ana Luisa Galicinao, the overall mineral income for 2023 was P40,138,748.40.

This was a 190% increase from 2020 when the collection was only P13,811.347.50.

Last year’s total collection also more than doubled the 2022 figure of P16,793,000.

Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado said this also meant an increase in share for local government units (LGUs).

In visits across the province, the governor personally handed over sand and gravel shares of LGUs.

On Jan. 3, the governor personally handed over P1,440,000 to LGU Baclayon, P840,000 to barangay Cambanac, P240,000 to San Juan Buenaventura and P1,220,332.80 to barangay San Roque.

Tubigon, Maribojoc and Balilihan LGUs also received their share of sand and gravel collection in separate visits on the same day.

Aumentado explained that the increased income and consequent increase in LGU share are testaments to the effective campaign against corruption.

The provincial government earns 30% share of the total income from sand and gravel and quarry operations while 40% goes to the barangay where the quarry is located and the remaining 30% to the municipality.

BMinRO said that there are 58 active permits, 46 for quarry and 12 for sand and gravel.

The Bohol Environmental Protection Task Force recorded a total of 85 apprehensions in 156 areas monitored three times a week.

The report also said that three mined-out areas are of ongoing rehabilitation in Trinidad, Talibon and Alicia.

The landmark accomplishment in mineral income forms part of the environmental sustainability pillar of the strategic governance roadmap under the leadership of Aumentado. (PIMO/LMS)
