A total of 1,955 grams of illegal drugs were seized in Bohol from January to September this year, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) – Bohol.
This is part of the continuing campaign to prevent gullible citizens from getting involved in the illegal drugs trade.
The intensified campaign is consistent with the efforts to keep peace and order in the province.
During a live episode of the Capitol Reports, a weekly show produced by the provincial government of Bohol every Friday, Intelligence Officer II Michael Vargas of PDEA Bohol reported his agency’s accomplishments in the drive against the social menace since the start of the year.
According to Vargas, the 1,955 grams they seized were collected from the 17 buy-bust operations conducted all over the province to reduce supply.
During the nine-month operations, they arrested 43 personalities involved in both selling and use of illegal drugs.
Vargas reiterated that PDEA Bohol remains steadfast in its partnership with local communities in the campaign including intensifying information education campaigns in barangays and schools.
He said 117 lectures have been conducted this year against the evils of illegal drugs.
PDEA Bohol recently constructed a Balay Silangan center in Catigbian for personalities involved in illegal substance usage, he added.
This reformation facility aims to rehabilitate plea bargainers and reintegrate them into society through educational programs, activities, and livelihood programs.
Regarding their barangay clearing program, PDEA Bohol worked with 643 barangays in their operations through intensive educational campaigns and surveillance.
This has resulted in the declaration of 17 barangays as drug-free.
The agency says it will continue its usual operations towards its goal of a “drug-free Bohol.”
