The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Central Visayas distributed on Wednesday the cash assistance to micro retailers affected by the implementation of Executive Order No. 39, which imposed a price cap on rice.

All six recipients, coming from Tagbilaran City and the municipalities of Jagna, Carmen, Sevilla, and Ubay, each claimed the P15,000 aid from the government at the Tagbilaran City Hall Atrium.

DSWD-7 Project Development Officer and Team Leader of the Bohol Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) Team Jimmy Crusio, DTI-Bohol OIC Provincial Director Vierna Teresa C. Ligan, Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Censoria C. Yap, and DILG City Local Government Operations Officer Juliet Olalo attended the activity.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. issued Executive Order No. 39 on August 31, mandating a P41 to P45 per kilogram price ceiling on rice. But rice retailers, especially small merchants, were not too happy about this as they stressed that the directive might only result in more business losses.
