The Philippine coast guard personnel and volunteers have rescued at least 72 passengers and 60 crewmembers of an inter-island ferry that caught fire as it approached Panglao Island in Bohol province early Sunday morning, June 18.
The M/V Esperanza Star of Kho Shipping Line, which came from Lazi, Siquijor province, was more than a kilometer (about a mile) away from the Tagbilaran port, when smoke emerged from the followed by flames, according to one of the rescued passengers.
Some to jump into the water as flames spread fast.
The passengers and crew were brought to Tagbilaran port.
No one was hurt during the incident.
Coast guard said investigation was underway.
