Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap on Tuesday said there was no kidnapping incident occurred in the city.
She clarified there is no truth in the alleged kidnapping that reportedly took place near a mall on Tuesday morning.
“There is no kidnapping ug fake news ang mga nagsulti nga kidnapping ag nahitabo,” said Yap on a Facebook post.
A video of the kidnapping was circulating in the social media, showing a woman who was allegedly abducted by an unknown man on board a van.
According to Yap, the Tagbilaran City Police immediately conducted an investigation, and it was found out that the woman was not kidnapped.
The woman, 20, who hails from Loon town, was applying for a job. She had a “meet-up” with the man, 74, who hails from Panglao town at Alturas Mall for the job offer for his farm as chicken feeder yet she was brought inside the car of the suspect in the basement parking lot of Alturas Mall and offered for a ride.
They had a short conversation regarding work or business inside the car until they talked about her personal life and sexual life. While holding her hand, she wiped her forehead and suddenly kissed it down to her lips, but she was able to find a way to evade him and wanted to go to the comfort room.
She escaped and asked help from the mall security guards and, she was scared and did not returned to the car.
Yap urged residents to be vigilant.
