The Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) dismissed rumors that a group of people in a white van could be behind the series of kidnappings in the province.
Lt. Col. Norman Nuez, Chief of Operation Branch of BPPO explained that there was no kidnapping contrary to what is currently being spread on Facebook.
Netizens have been sharing social media posts about kidnapping incidents happening in Bohol. The posts claimed that at least two of these crimes happened in Calape and Ubay towns.
He said the kidnappings that have been reported in the social media were perpetrated by different people.
A Facebook post which was shared by netizens narrated an incident of abduction of children by an unknown person in a van.
Nuez said that they did not receive a report that there were parents who turned to the police station and filed a blotter because their child was missing.
In Barangay San Pascual in Ubay town, the driver of the van persuaded the two children-aged 11 and 3- who were going to church. Because of fear, they ran away. The post which was shared in the social media warned parents of kidnappings.
Police Major Rey Olar, chief of the Ubay Police Station, denied the allegations that a child was kidnapped in Ubay.
Nuez urged the public to report crimes to the nearest police station so that lawmen can immediately take action and conduct an investigation.
