A man died after being swept away by floodwaters during the thunderstorms that occurred in Candijay town on the morning of Sunday, Aug. 14, according to the Candijay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

The victim was identified as Pedrito Dumayac, 48, a resident of Barangay Poblacion.

The incident took place just after 9 a.m.

His family told police he was visiting his son at the cemetery.

“… He was swept by the strong current of Bahada river when he attempted to cross it. Allegedly, Mr. Dumayac was under the influence of alcohol,” MDRRMO said its Facebook page.

Authorities launched search and retrieval operation to find Dumayac.

He was retrieved at around 10 a.m.

“The heavy downpour brought about by monsoon in the west and LPA in the east caused rivers to swell, bringing in strong current and murky waters,” MDRRMO added.
