Central Visayas has confirmed 22 cases of Omicron variant of Sars-CoV-2, which causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), the Department of Health (DOH)-Central Visayas confirmed Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

DOH-Central Visayas Chief Pathologist Dr. Mary Jean Loreche said that 16 of the cases are overseas Filipino workers, one is a returning overseas Filipino, and five samples were sourced from the local community.

Loreche said they received the result from the Philippine Genome Center last Monday, January 17, 2022.

Out of the 78 samples sent from December 27, 2021 to January 6, 2022, only 22 samples tested positive for the Omicron variant.

The report covered 78 samples sent to the PGC for testing, from December 27 to January 6.

“Nanawagan na naman tayo na yung mga asymptomatic or mild, home quarantine na lang tayo. ‘Wag na muna tayong pumuno sa ating mga hospital, unless you have a comorbidity or you are unvaccinated,” she said.
