Tagbilaran City Vice Mayor Jose Antonio “Toto” S. Veloso urges the City Waterworks to prioritize securing generator sets so water may flow within the city during their regular session at SP Sandugo Session Hall on December 21, 2021.
Engr. Peter Busano, head of the City Waterworks, appeared before the 14th SP to answer queries regarding the water situation in the city.
Busano mentioned that there are 25 pumping stations around the city, providing water to all 15 barangays. However, these pumping stations rely on electricity to distribute water. With the power outage, water could not be distributed properly.
He further specified that there are 9 pumping stations with 10 horsepower (HP), 1 station with 15 HP, 3 stations with 7.5 HP, 3 stations with 5 HP, 4 stations with 3HP and 1 station that requires 1.5 HP to function.
The City Government of Tagbilaran only has one available generator that can power the 10 HP station.
Four generators further have been operating all stations requiring 3 HP, and 2 new generators that can provide only 1 HP. Thus, 7 generator sets are currently working, trying to provide water to the residents of Tagbilaran. However, this is far from enough.
Furthermore, what is compounding the problem is the shortage of fuel in the city.
It was during this moment that Veloso urged Busano to immediately request and process the procurement of more generator sets so as to power all the remaining pumping stations.
