President Rodrigo Duterte withdrew his certificate of candidacy for senator in the 2022 polls, Commission on Elections spokesperson James Jimenez said on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021.

Duterte personally filed his statement of withdrawal with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday afternoon, December 14, just hours after his longtime aide, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, officially backed out of the presidential race.

The move also came just hours after his daughter, vice presidential aspirant Sara Duterte-Carpio, endorsed his candidacy for senator.
