Missing Balilihan man found dead after swept by floodwater

A 68-year-old man found dead on Monday morning (Dec. 13) after he was swept away by floodwaters as heavy rain battered in Balilihan town.

Balilihan Police Station said Alejandro Ocay was last seen by his family on Sunday afternoon while tending his carabao.

The family reported the incident to Dorol village chief Susan Paña.

The family believed Ocay was swept away by the massive flood after heavy rain on Sunday afternoon.

Personnel of Balilihan Police Station, barangay officials and some volunteers went to the area on Sunday night. However, they had a hard time finding Ocay since it was dark.

The search continued on Monday morning with more barangay officials, searchers and volunteers.

At around 9 a. m. Ocay’s lifeless body was found at Abatan River in Barangay Rosario, Cortes town.

Police said there were no indications of foul play behind the man’s death.

Police believed that Ocay was swept away by floodwaters when he tried to cross the river.
