Former Ubay mayor Eutiquio Mendez Bernales passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 17, his family and friends confirmed later that day.

The local government of Ubay has lowered its flags at half-mast due to the internment of the late mayor.

Bohol 2nd Rep. Aris Aumentado also condoled to the family.

“Rest in Peace Former Ubay Mayor my Tiyo Tikyong Bernales. We will miss you Tiyo magkita namo ni Papa Erico,” Aumentado said in a Facebook post.

Bernales, a physician, served as town mayor for 23 years.

LGU-Ubay said Bernales has served the Ubayanons as its local chief executive for almost four (4) decades (since 1979). His leadership, along with the late Governor Erico Aumentado, helped shape the status of the town to become a first class municipality.

“We have lost a highly-respected and remarkable public servant who until his last remaining days offered to provide medical attention to our fellow Ubayanons. Let us offer our prayers and mass intentions for the eternal repose of his soul,” the LGU Ubay said.
