Government employee members of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) who recovered from a bout of coronavirus disease and have received their employees’ compensation check as sickness benefit from the GSIS can still get another P10,000 cash assistance.

The additional cash assistance would come from the Employees Compensation Commission (ECC).

“We are pleased to inform our GSIS Members who filed and received EC Check from GSIS Cebu on their filed claim for EC Sickness Benefit for Covid-19 Recovered Members; that they are entitled to 10K EC Cash Assistance from Employees Compensation Commission (ECC).

The EEC, is a government corporation attached to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for policy coordination and guidance.

The ECC is a quasi-judicial corporate entity created to implement the government’s Employees’ Compensation Program (ECP) by providing a package of benefits for public and private sector employees and their dependents in the event of work-connected contingencies such as sickness, injury, disability or death.

Earlier, Labor secretary Silvestre Bello announced that Filipino workers who had been infected with Covid-19 can receive appropriate compensation from the government through the ECC.

The ECC Board has already approved the inclusion of COVID, the 33rd compensable disease in ECCs list of occupational and work-related diseases.

“ECC has been consistent in declaring the compensability of CoViD-19 under the ‘increased risk’ theory of the ECP,” Sec Bello, who chairs the ECC Board, said.

But to file for the cash assistance, members are to bring the following as included in the 5 Checklist of Requirements.

Members must submit an accomplished ECC Cash Assistance Application Form and Proof of Approved EC claim from SSS or GSIS.

They too must submit the EC Voucher which was released to members upon claiming their EC Checks.

Members claiming also need to submit 2 copies of valid IDs preferably Office or Company ID, SSS or GSIS or other government issued ID, Medical Abstract or Medical Certificate for COVID-19 illness including the period of medical attendance of illness, or the Laboratory (RT-PCR) test result showing POSITIVE for COVID-19, issued by a DOH accredited testing center or Quarantine Clearance issued by LGU-Health Office/BHERT.
