Former Panglao Mayor and incumbent councilor Benedicto “Dodong” Alcala passed away on Monday, his family and friends confirmed.

Former Panglao Councilor Rogelin Degoma said she was sad of Alcala’s demise.

“Good people just slept to eternal life. It is in great disbelief, grief and sadness losing you Papa Dodong, former Panglao Mayor Benedicto Hornido Alcala,” said Degoma in her Facebook post.

“God knows how grateful we are knowing and having known you and your family! DAGHANG SALAMAT SA TANAN NIMONG KAAYO SA AMONG PAMILYA,” she added.

Benedicto served as the longest local chief executive in Panglao.

He started his political career as OIC-mayor in 1986. He won in 1988–1989, 1989 – 1992, 1992-1995, and 1995-1997.

In 2004 elections he lost to Dr. Doloreich Dumaluan.

In 2010, he regained his post as mayor of Panglao and served for one term before running again for mayor where he lost in 2013 to Leonila Montero.

In 2016, he lost to Pedro Fuertes.

In 2019, he was elected number one councilor.

Local officials expressed sympathy with the family left by Alcala.
