Three fishermen were arrested for illegal fishing inside the prohibited 15-kilometer municipal water off Gaus Island in President Carlos P. Garcia.

Regino Paragsa, 44, a resident of Kodia, Madridejos, Cebu; Julito Marande, 48, a resident of Guiwanon, Bantayan, Cebu; and Anrie Cartajena, 31, a resident of Baigad, Bantayan, Cebu were arrested by the Bohol Maritime Police Station (MARPSTA) while patrolling the waters off Gaus Island in President Carlos P. Garcia around midnight on Wednesday, May 5, 2021.

Major Jose Los BaÑos, station Chief of Bohol MARPSTA said said that the MARPSTA was on seaborne patrol when they spotted the three suspects on board their motorized pump boat engaged illegal fishing.

Confiscated from their possession werepurse seine which they allegedly use in fishing and 240 kilos of “tamban” (Sardines) with estimated value of P36,000.00.

Said fishing vessel and fishing paraphernalia along with arrested suspects were brought to the station for proper disposition and pending filing of appropriate charges for Violation of Sec. 95 of RA 10654.
