Ambulance driver shot dead by suspected NPA rebels in Batuan

An ambulance driver was shot dead by suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Batuan town.

The victim was identified as Pio Lingatong, 52, a resident of Barangay Aloja.

Based on the report of Batuan Police Station, Lingatong, an employee of the local government unit (LGU) of Batuan, was shot dead several meters from his house on Sunday afternoon, January 10, 2021.

Four suspects went to Lingatong’s home and asked him to accompany them to the village chief’s residence. However, he was shot by one of the suspects when they were 15 meters away from his house.

In a statement, the LGU Batuan said Lingatong was a dedicated employee.

“Lgu Batuan mourns the unfortunate and sudden death of Pio Lingatong, a good and dedicated JO of the lgu. Rest in Peace Pio! Condolence to the Family,” the LGU Batuan said.

Authorities are still conducting an investigation on the incident and the motive for the shooting.
