A well-known businessman and medical practitioner, Dr. Simplicio “Bobong” Yap Jr. passed away last Friday. He was 74.
The news was confirmed by the latter’s family and friends through a Facebook post.
The Facebook posts were immediately filled with message of condolences from friends and netizens.
“Nong Bobong, thank you for all your help. We’re going to miss you. Rest in peace,” Tagbilaran Bishop Abet Uy said on his Facebook post.
Yap, who founded the City Pharmacy, became a councilor in Tagbilaran City in 1970s. He also became a provincial board member in 1987.
As a provincial lawmaker, he was the top negotiator on the peace negotiations between the provincial government and Epitacio Ramirez known as “Kumander Vargas” of the New People’s Army (NPA) during the administration of the late Governor Erico Aumentado. After the talks, Kumander Vargas, the NPA commander in Central Visayas, surrendered to the military.
After Yap retired in politics, he concentrated in his medical practice. He was also active in academe being the chairman of the board of trustees at Bohol Wisdom School, religious and civic organizations.
