Pauline Amelinckx, the official representative of Bohol to the Miss Universe Philippines 2020, has remembered the deadly earthquake that devastated Bohol and neighboring provinces seven years ago, Oct. 15, 2013.
She said the quake which lasted for 33 seconds was the longest in her life.
“I have never felt so scared and clueless. I legit felt like the end was near while I was taking cover underneath my bed, while I could hear my mom shout for me outside,” she shared on Facebook.
“I didnt realize the amount of damage our Province sustained until a few days after. It was devastating. But yet, we found hope. Hope in faith and hope in our Bol-anon spirit. It took a while for all us to recover. To this day, the sound of thunder still reminds me of the earthquake. But when I look at how far we have come as a community and province, I believe even more that everything happens for a reason. We have experienced loss yet we are still able to celebrate life, ” she said.
