Several Boholanos passed the March and September 2020 Physician Licensure Examinations.
The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on Friday, October 2, 2020, announced the results of the examinations.
Dr. Gloria Gail Corral Lim, the daughter of former Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Neri Lim and Dr. Sharleen Lim was one of the passers.
In a Facebook post, she said “there are so many reasons as to how I came to choose this path, it consists of a variety of deeply personal to somewhat shallow motivators.”
“So, here it is, ma. I did it, there is finally a Dr. Gloria Lim. Here’s to you being a doctor vicariously through me. May I bring honor to our name. ” – Dr. Gloria Gail Corral Lim
She shared she was named after her grandmother, former Tagbilaran City Vice Mayor Gloria Neri Lim.
She said she was told by her and other relatives that her grandmother had always wanted to be a doctor but never had the opportunity to pursue it.
” It was one of those family anecdotes that I just took as matter of fact because as the eldest child, she had to help support a family. I, on the otherhand, initially never wanted to become a doctor, but life happened and I ate my words,” Lim shared.
She said she never knew how much her grandmother dreamt of becoming a doctor, how much it really meant to her until she visited her after graduating from medical school.
” Her memory comes and goes and I had to be reintroduced to her as her grandchild, but this time they introduced me as her apo, the doctor. I saw tears forming in her eyes as she told me, “that was my dream”. Even though old age has taken most of her memories, she never forgot what could have been her true passion. It was then that my calling took on another meaning. Being her namesake, I had to live out her dream and carry on her legacy, ” she said.
” So, here it is, ma. I did it, there is finally a Dr. Gloria Lim. Here’s to you being a doctor vicariously through me. May I bring honor to our name,” she added.
She thanked the Lord Almighty, her family, teachers, mentors, classmates, friends, and colleagues and to all her other relatives and friends,” especially the ones who believed in me more than I did in myself. ”
Other new Boholano physicians are Dr. Blair Elpidio Jala II, Dr. Hara Kristel Petalcorin Gacera, Dr. Nelson Marquez Jr. and Dr. Justine Angeli Nemenzo Sombrio.
Jala II, who is the son of former Provincial Schools Division Superintendent and incumbent 3rd district Board Member Elpidio Jala and Gacera both graduated from Cebu Institute of Medicine (CIM) in Cebu City.
Marquez and Sombrio both graduated from Southwestern University School of Medicine.
