Illegal cockfighting locally known as “tukis” is still popular during community quarantine
A 30-year-old man was arrested for illegal gambling in Tagbilaran City during the implementation of the province-wide general community quarantine (GCQ).
He was arrested by Tagbilaran police at 11:50 a. m. on Sunday, June 21 at Binayran Road going to Urban Poor in Barangay San Isidro.
Tagbilaran PNP’s Theft and Robbery Section Operatives under the supervision of Lt. Col. Mart Crystal Peralta, acting chief of police led the arrest.
Team TCPS composed of Police Staff Sergeant Klause Paredes and Police Staff Sergeant Aldrin Gabuya responded to a call from a concerned citizen that a group of people was engaged in illegal cockfighting locally known as “tukis” at the said place.
As the team arrived at the area, the operatives verified the report and confirmed it.
When the police officers rushed up, a male person alerted the bettors that prompted them to run in different directions to escape from the arresting officers.
However, Gabuya was able to apprehend Raymond Roche Maestrado, 30, a resident of Purok-4A, Barangay Tiptip in Tagbilaran City.
Recovered were bet money amounting to P100 and one fighting cock with a gaff.
Maestrado was brought to Tagbilaran City Police Station and now temporarily detained at the custodial facility for proper disposition while a case of Violation of Presidential Decree No. 449 “Cockfighting Law of 1974” locally known as “TUKIS” is being prepared for filing before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
