The Department of Trade and Industry Bohol Provincial Office (DTI Bohol) recently rolled out “Diskwento Caravans” as a move to enable consumers in accessing affordable basic necessities and prime commodities amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) crisis.
DTI “rolling stores/ diskwento caravans” arrived to serve consumers in the towns of San Miguel (April 24 and 30), Bilar (May 7), Alicia (May 14), and Catigbian (May 21).

Goods ranging from basic necessities such as processed milk, canned goods, bottled water, noodles as well as laundry essentials and disinfectants, were being offered to Boholanos at discounted prices.

According to DTI Bohol provincial director Maria Soledad Balistoy, the activity was meant to provide consumers with products that are at distributor’s prices and
to bring necessities closer to homes so that family members need not leave their towns just to buy groceries and food items.
Balistoy added that the “rolling store / diskwento caravan” project is also one of DTI’s programs that support the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.

DTI Bohol reports that as of May 21 this year, total sales reached Php 1,625,000.70 with total transactions numbering 3,516 in the last five caravans.
The high number of transactions signify the number of households that benefitted from the said activity, Balistoy explained.

She reports that the positive response from consumers in the towns where DTI held its caravans have encouraged municipal mayors of said LGUs to request the department for another round of “Diskwento Caravan” in their towns.
The DTI rolling store project is made possible with the cooperation of the Provincial Government and the Local Government Units (LGUs) and in partnership with local manufacturers, dealers and distributors.

Soon, the DTI Diskwento Caravan will roll in the towns of Anda (May 28) and Sevilla (June 4), Balistoy announced. (ends)
