Virtual Mass, benediction greet Bohol Catholics on Palm Sunday

Boholano Catholics took part in today’s Palm Sunday celebration even if they were not physically present in their parish churches.

Most of them watched Palm Sunday Masses aired live on local television and radio, or streamed on social media.

At Saint Joseph the Worker Cathedral, the 9 a.m. private Mass was presided by Bishop Abet Uy of the Diocese of Tagbilaran

In his homily, Uy said the virus could not stop loving the Lord.

“Walay bisan kinsa, walay bisan unsa, nga makapahimulag kanato sa gugma sa Dios. Bisan ang new corona virus dili makababag sa atong pagdawat sa makaluwas nga gugma sa Dios,” said Bishop Uy on his Facebook post.

The blessings of the “lukay” or “palaspas” (palm fronds) followed.

The palm fronds carried by some devotees were collected and blessed inside the church. It were returned to the devotees afterwards.

Holy Week Masses would also be carried out live through radio, television broadcast and other social media platforms.

Bishop Uy asked the Catholic faithful in his diocese to follow the Holy Week celebration over television, radio and social media, which would be aired at 1 p.m. on Holy Monday; at 1 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Holy Tuesday; at 1 p.m., 6 p.m. on Holy Wednesday; at 4 p.m. on Holy Thursday; and 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Easter Sunday.

The Siete Palabras is at 12 noon on Good Friday, which will be followed by veneration of the cross and procession.

The Easter Vigil is at 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.on Holy Saturday.
