The dry season in the Philippines has begun.

In a statement on Friday, March 20, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced the end of the northeast monsoon or hanging amihan, which means the start of the dry season.

Pagasa observed the gradual shift of wind direction from northeasterly to easterly over most parts of the country due to the establishment of high pressure area over the northwestern Pacific Ocean, which signifies the end of Amihan.

As the prevailing dry season starts, day-to-day weather across the country will become warmer, though isolated thunderstorms are also likely to occur, said Pagasa.

The public is advised to take precautionary measures to reduce heat stress and optimize water for personal and domestic use.

Pagasa said monitoring of day-to-day weather and long-term climate situation will continue despite the ongoing enhanced community quarantine due to Covid-19.
