Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School has implemented Thursday the staggered examinations and social distancing measures to protect students from the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Melchor Daniel, Jr., the school’s officer-in-charge-principal, said that the staggered fourth quarter examinations per grade level is to reduce the number of students in schools per day.

“There is no truth that we are suspending classes. We are simply changing the way we administer the tests. Unlike before we only do it for two days now we do it for four days,” said Daniel.

DCPNHS is the first school in Tagbilaran City Division to implement the directive of the Department of Education (DepEd).

Senior High School has already conducted their exams.

“Only those students who may have lacking activities or whatever deficiencies that necessary for them to pass the subjects, they will come next week,” he said.

Grade 7 had their examinations today, March 12.

Grade 8 students will have their examinations on Friday, March 13.

On Monday and Tuesday, Grades 9 and 10 will have their examinations.

This also means students will only be required to go to school on their respective examination days.

DepEd said social distancing measures will be implemented in all schools for the remaining days of the school year.

“School Year 2019-2020 is already about to end. The 4th Quarter Examinations for the graduating levels of Grades 6 and 12 are scheduled per the School Calendar on March 12-13, 2020. This is already this coming Thursday and Friday. On the other hand, the 4th Quarter Examinations for all other grade levels are scheduled on March 19-20, 2020, which is already Thursday and Friday next week,” the agency said.

For moving up and graduation rites, DepEd said each school can choose to hold their rights within the week of April 13 to 17.

Should there be any public health situation that may prevent the holding of such rites, the schools, in consultation with teachers and parents, may choose to reschedule or forego the holding of graduation and moving up rites.

“Let us wait and see,” said Daniel.
