It’s the time of the year when inboxes are filled with holiday greetings from friends, family and colleagues.
However, the Cyber Security Philippines (CERT) has cautioned Facebook Messenger users and others to be wary of fraudulent Christmas and New Year greetings sent with malicious intent.

According to CERT, victims usually receive greetings notification. Once they opened it, they will be redirected to the following websites:
CERT said these websites will show various greetings, then they will be prompted to input their data while a “malicious file runs”.

“Malicious script then conducts service execution and credential access, then sends similar message to the victim’s user contacts,” CERT said.

CERT then advised those who were able to open such messages to immediately change their passwords for their banking and social media accounts, reset their browsers, and update their anti-malware and scan.
