The Mater Dei College Choir of Tubigon has won major awards at the 1st Church Choir Competiton held at the Bohol Cultural Center
on Friday night, December 6.
Beside the grand prize, Mater Dei College Choir also won the best interpretation of a common song.The choir competition had 10 participating choirs from different parishes of the Diocese of Tagbilaran.
Each group sang three songs- common, church, and Christmas songs for 15 minutes for the delight of the audience.
Fr. Irvin Garsuta and the Music Ministry of the Diocese of Tagbilaran organized the event.
“This is intended to promote awareness to level up the parish choirs. Singing is not just singing but singing for God who always deserves nothing but the best,” said Fr. Garsuta said in his welcome address.
“Be inspired to serve God through music,” he added.
Bishop Alberto Uy of the Diocese of Tagbilaran hoped that the competition would become a yearly event in Bohol.”Your amazing performances should make every Boholano proud. You are all winners! Keep the faith! Let us serve HIM more,” the bishop said.
Our Lady of the Village Parish in Corella town won third place, while St. Jude Thaddeus Parish of Barangay Mansasa in Tagbilaran City won the 2nd place.
The Holy Name University (HNU) Chorale also performed.
